OZONE LAYER "Ozone layer" refers to the ozone within stratosphere, where over 90% of the earth's ozone resides. Ozone is an irritating, corrosive, colorless gas with a smell something like burning electrical wiring. In fact, ozone is easily produced by any high-voltage electrical arc (spark plugs, Van de Graaff generators, Tesla coils, arc welders). Each molecule of ozone has three oxygen atoms and is produced when oxygen molecules (O2) are broken up by energetic electrons or high energy radiation PERMACULTURE

Essential Questions:
  • If the ozone layer could be repaired, what amount of responsibility would lie with which groups of people?
  • For our own sakes, how can we compensate for the degradation of the ozone layer?
    • What can we do for future generations?
  • What issues will your grandchildren face is the ozone layer continues to degrade at its current rate?
    • At the rate of 20 years ago?
  • How have we altered our impact on the ozone layer within the last 20 years?
    •  Can it still be saved?
    •  If so, what more needs to be done ?
