ECOLOGICAL  EXPEDITION
The time frame for this project is 7 weeks. Some of the groundwork will be laid far in advance of this 7-week period.
Much will be done in the first week which precedes the research.
Pre-assignment work will consist of:
  • learning about the topics in biology class,
  • reading and discussing news articles.
  • learning to do MLA formatted headings, and citations in English class,
  • lessons on using search engines,
  • exploring sample MLA formatted research papers,
  • writing a 'mock' paper.
The research starts the second week of the Unit, and due are an outline, a rough draft and a final draft at different points through the seventh week.
There will be 3 days built in to the schedule for after school help with the drafts.
Students will be allowed to use the computers during study halls and lunches, after school and during 1-3 class periods.

Research Dates and schedule:
Each student will be in one of eight groups: B1, B2, O1. O2, G1, G2, D1, D2.
The letter stands for the topic, the number is for the first or second half of the group.
There are four research stations:
C stands for Computer- based research, F stands for Films, I stands for Interview,  and B stands for Books.
For each day of research, there are three 35-minute shifts, 1, 2 and 3.
For example, on day two, the memebers of group B1 will first go to the books, then watch a film, and finish by composing their interviews.
Note: you will not visit each station each day.

This project is one which requires the use of the most recent information, and communication with people from outside the school community; this can all be best facilitated through the internet.
